WHO WE ARE

St. Mark Lutheran, founded in 1949, is a co-educational school serving 500+ students with varying demographics between 6 Weeks through 8th Grade.

 

MISSION

St. Mark Lutheran School seeks to introduce Houston families to the life-changing love of Jesus through Scholarship, Ministry and Leadership.

ACCREDITATION

St. Mark Lutheran School is accredited by the Lutheran School Accreditation Commission which is certified by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission (TEPSAC). TEPSAC is recognized by the Commissioner of Education of the Texas Education Agency in accordance with Texas Administrative Code Title 19, Part II, Chapter 97, Subchapter A, #97.7 Non-Public Schools.
St. Mark is also accredited by the National Lutheran School Accreditation Commission.

HISTORY

September 1948

Pastor Edwin Keiper is called by the Texas District to Houston as a Missionary at Large. He begins worship services at American Legion Hall.

September 1949

St. Mark Lutheran School opens.

November 1958

Ground was broken on Hillendahl for new facilities to make room for the growing congregation.

November 1959

The Hillendahl sanctuary and first wing of the school were dedicated.

January 1965

St. Mark facilities were expanded again to include gym, cafeteria, education center, dining hall and offices.

June 1999

Due to the school's growth, modular buildings are purchased to be used as classrooms.

September 2017

Construction on new K-8 school building begins. Bibles signed by families and students are laid in the foundation.

2015

St. Mark approves a master plan, initiating a campaign to raise funds for a new school building.

August 2018

St. Mark hosts a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new school building.
